The White Whale Restaurant has been open for almost 4 years, and has always been based on serving local food, prepared fresh in house. We take pride in providing a friendly and relaxed dining experience, and also boast the best craft beer list north of Victoria. The Restaurant is set in a century-old tudor style house on the Courtenay River, with a large waterside patio and a large dock which allows our guests to arrive by almost any type of water-going vessel.
In our first 4 years, we have changed our menu every 3 months with the seasons, in order to take advantage of and showcase fresh local food when it comes into season. We do our best to showcase local farms, food producers and fisheries in all of our menus. Chef Aaron shops weekly at our world class Farmer's Market in order to stay on top of the freshest produce, as well as keeping a strong personal bond with the front line workers from many of the local farms and producers.
We also encourage foragers to bring their wares to our kitchen door, and buy direct from fishermen whenever possible. BC Craft beer, wine, spirits and non alcoholic beverages are also part of our program. We boast an ever-changing list of local craft beers on tap, focusing on seasonal and hard to get beers, keeping our list as eclectic and flavourful as any list on the island. We have championed the local food and beverage scene in the Comox Valley, helping pave the way for new restaurants, breweries, distilleries, farms and food producers. We are proud of what we do at the White Whale.
We will put Eat Drink Local icons on our permanent menu, as we source 100% of our proteins & produce from BC in everything we serve. We don't have space on our menu to highlight who and where each and every local ingredient we serve comes from, so a blanket statement explaining our philosophy heads our regular menu. We will also create fresh sheets during October that highlight local food producers and ingredients, getting into where each local ingredient is grown or produced.
